Yuil H-3 Leg Iron To Fixed Point To Anchor Person @ Location For Hospital Escape Prevention etc

This is the Yuil H-3 leg irons. Though it is actually 1 leg iron, connected by a long chain to a lockable anchor on the other end. It's primary purpose is for use in hospitals to lock one ankle of the prisoner to the hospital bed to prevent them escaping. Less restrictive than handcuffs, but keeps them from running off.

The body of the leg iron and anchor are aluminium. The inner sandwich metal on the leg iron is aluminium, while on the anchor, the inner sandwich is steel. Both the moving bows (leg iron and anchor) are steel. The leg iron has a silicone internal lining to help protect the comfort of the wearer. They have the usual 2 pawls, but like most modern Yuil restraints, these work with standard keys, so they are not as high security as the old days when you had to use their special keys.

The chain is about 32 and a half inches long, making the locations of it's use flexible. Especially since you can wrap the chain around a fixed location to make it shorter.

This could be useful for transport situations, "booking" of suspects or prisoners at police stations and prisons on top of the intended hospital bed application. Also, if you're into the bedroom activities side of things, a couple of these could prove useful! Especially the ability to wrap the chain around as many times as needed to shorten the chain to the needed length.

All in all, it feels like a quality piece of Korean restraint gear.

Yuil H-1 Belly Chain With Padlock and Universal Black Box Transport Security from South Korea

This is the Yuil H-1. It is a black box system with a belly chain that further restricts the movement of the limbs, while also providing some more limitation of the hands, at the same time limiting access to the keyway to thwart picking the handcuffs open.

This is a South Korean take on a US design Blue Box system, which is very similar. Designed for transport situations where extra restriction is needed during transport to prevent escape or effective attacks of guards. The body of the box is made from plastic or polymer and the slide that goes over the top to hold the box closed and allow locking is made of strong aluminium. The chain is smooth with no harsh welds or any snagging on clothing. The design of the black box also has holes for the double lock, so once fitted, the handcuffs can be tightened to the adequate amount and then be double locked while the box is fully set up and secured. The padlock it comes with only locks on one side, but it uses a ball bearing mechanism which cannot be shimmed, which is a nice feature.

The black box works with several brands (I may do a simple video at some point showing which types of handcuffs fit this Yuil black box in the future). It adds more security to handcuffs. You can also forgo the belly chain and use the padlock directly on the black box, if all you care about is further adding security to the handcuffs but don't need such rigid restriction of the limbs!

A quite flexible system, really.

Also, this is the first appearance of my genuine US prison Bob Barker brand orange jumpsuit. I wanted orange alternatives to my khaki so I can alternate, based on what I want. I have the orange 2-piece scrubs version also, yet to be used. Plain prison clothing like this in Khaki or orange, provide a nice plain background that is bright enough, with no distracting patterns or dark colours that reduce restraint visibility. This way, you can more easily see the handcuffs or leg irons that are being shown in a worn context, compared to back in the day when I wore my usual black clothing. After all, the items are the only star of my videos! Plus the clothing is a good match for the context of the usage of restraints.

Yuil M-09 Indigo Blue Lightweight Handcuffs NIJ

These are Indigo Blue versions of the Yuil M-09 lightweight handcuff.

They have 2 pawls, anti-shim protection, standard handcuff keys work with them and they have some pick resistance too.

They have a nice blue colour. However, the bow alignment is not what I would have hoped and the edges are sharply angular. Both before and after recording I have had to use a diamond knife sharpening rod to lightly take the bur off the edges of the cheek plates (body of the handcuff). The bow is decently smooth on the edges but the cheek plates needed a slight bit of attention.

Not the most comfortable handcuff I have ever tried, for sure. But they do look cool and are NIJ certified.

They are lightweight, coming in at 163 grams.

All in all, I am happy I have them in my collection :) Especially now that I lightly filed off the burs.

Comparing various handcuffs for securely carrying a case / briefcase, inc the new Alfa Proj 9923!

Well, almost all these handcuffs have pros and cons, except the rigid ones which would have nothing but cons. Things you have to think about...

How long is the chain, will it be visible to everyone?

How loud does the chain jingle and will I announce my presence like Jacob Marley walking down a street?

How secure is the handcuff, can normal keys open it?

Over all I prefer the Alfa Proj (Ralkem) 9923 because it connects to the case via a chain rather than the handcuff having to close around the handle, the chain is not too long, the chain is relatively quiet and the handcuff uses a totally non-standard key, meaning a criminal with a handcuff key who's anticipating to quickly bash, grab & run by using their "normal" cuff key will be thwarted.

The one part which does make more sound is the rectangular connection link. But you could attach this cuff to your case and then put some cello-tape, masking tape, duct tape, scapa tape or whatever else around it just to stop it jangling, since the rest of the chain is quite low noise really.

I am over the moon to have this 9923 back in my collection! An excellent handcuff.

Yuil CY-2-18 18 Inch Chain Handcuffs

These Yuil CY-2-18  handcuffs have an 18 inch chain attached to them. It is an odd thing, but the fact the chain is so long both is good so an arresting officer or security guard etc can grab the chain and control a suspect. For example preventing them from running away.

The long chain is also more comfortable for larger people, but the downside is it does not restrict movement all that much. It is easy to get your hands from behind your back to over to your front and in theory you could strangle someone with the chain, similar to what happened near the end of the movie Salt. So anyone secured with these handcuffs with a long chain, should never be left alone or assume they are secured.

One good thing is, someone handcuffed with these would not be able to change their upper body clothing to disguise them self and escape.

Even though these are legitimate police handcuffs, because of the long chain length ( there is one which is 24 inches long too.... ) these would be good candidates for people who like to use handcuffs in the bedroom with their significant other, either one pair per arm attached to the corners of the bed's headboard or one pair linked through somewhere on the headboard etc. They'd also be good for handcuff challenges where people are handcuffed together for a certain number of hours, so they are connected but not stuck as close as they would be with normal chain link handcuffs.

All in all, these are an interesting addition to my collection, but they would surely be more of a niche pair for people unless you are just collecting and lock picking as I do.

Yuil M-03-1 Korean Rigid Transport Handcuffs (Pretty good security)

This is an interesting pair of Yuil M-03-1 Transport Handcuffs, made in Korea. South Korea to be specific (not the crazy North Korea!) These are the connection ring version of the M-03 model. The purpose of the ring is to create a chain gang environment for prisoner transport so one chain can run through all the cuffs to link the prisoners together. Alternatively it can allow them to be connected to leg irons. However this steel ring can be pressed down when not needed to allow normal grip and application of the handcuffs.

The gap between the wrists is larger and it makes accessing the key holes more difficult. They have a 2 pawl system, though mainly normal keys are able to open the handcuffs.

An interesting aspect of these is they are actually chain link handcuffs, using one very elongated welded chain. The plastic is then bolted on afterwards to provide rigidity from twisting, thus becoming rigid handcuffs. Though if the keyholes are facing out, someone could use a screw driver to undo the screws (normal cross-head screws, nothing fancy) and they could remove the plastic and they would become chain link handcuffs with a larger one single link, which would let people have twisting capability. Over all they are good handcuffs and worthy of being in my collection. It would have been nice if they would have used more secure screws, instead of the regular Philips type. But I do like them. Handcuffs like these should ideally not be applied where the keyholes are facing the hands because they can fiddle with the locks as much as any screws too.

Yuil M-09 K Light Weight Silicone Lined Higher Security Handcuffs

These are the Yuil M-09 K Light Weight Silicone Lined Higher Security Handcuffs. They have higher security from raw picking and shimming than most handcuffs and they have a special silicone lining which is described by Yuil as protecting human rights by helping to prevent injury.

Normal handcuff keys work with these handcuffs. The picture on the site, I suppose shows a previous design because I was hoping to receive the angled keyway which only works with Yuil high security keys. As it stands I have had contact with several suppliers of Yuil who have confirmed that standards have gone down.

Police and military should be searching people for keys any way when they arrest someone, so the fact that actual picking is made more complicated, regular shimming impossible and special shimming more difficult due to the design of these cuffs still makes them more secure than most handcuffs.

These are Korean and are of good quality and strength. I just wish they did not skimp slightly on the mechanism because I believe the older models had a slight advantage since only Yuil keys with the split-bit would work with them.

Yuil M-09 Korean Lightweight Aluminium Police Handcuffs

These Korean Yuil M-09 Lightweight aluminium handcuffs have anti-shim protection!

These are extremely, extremely light-weight, to the point of almost feeling like toys. But I can assure you that these are not toys. They are very strong handcuffs. They come with 2 keys, special 2-bitted keys. However due to a lessening of quality standards at Yuil, you can usually open their handcuffs with a standard handcuff key, with varying levels of ease in doing so. But they do work as designed. Their keys work flawlessly and the function works fine.

The tolerances could be tighter, because there is some lateral play in the arm, meaning you cannot guarantee the teeth will lock if you snap them around someone's wrist with a single motion, because the arm may bounce off the side of the cheek places on either side and require you to squeeze them to the correct level of tightness. Not a big problem but still, another quality issue that could be resolved.

Over all I do like them and I have altered my thoughts about Yuil, away from "They need their own keys" to "at least it's a pair with shim protection" because in my mind, this is the only security benefit provided by Yuil these days.

Over all very nice handcuffs and I can only hope Yuil improve their quality controls and complete the high quality feeling that you would get with tight tolerances.

They are definitely worth the money though.

Yuil M-11-1 Korean (GOOD) Hinged Handcuffs With Anti-shim & NIJ Certified

Welcome to a new handcuff video on Yuil M-11-1 These handcuffs are very good, although not without an issue I have found...

These have shim protection that makes them more secure when single locked, they are hinged which provides a greater degree of control over a violent subject and they take a non-standard key*.

The downside is that I believe quality control is lower in this brand of handcuffs. I believe that the silicone lined models that are NOT light-weight aluminum models will be perfectly fine. But these older models and light-weight models tend to work sometimes with standard keys, which is frustrating. Their leg irons do it, the previous Yuil hinged model I reviewed (and threw away in a few months later) also had that problem. So, they are more secure than regular standard handcuffs but if the quality control was higher, they would be perfect and high security by requiring their special double bitted key.

Yuil, if you make a handcuff that uses a non-standard handcuff key then please make sure it ONLY works with that non-standard handcuff key, else you are not providing any extra security with that key, you would be providing 'security theatre' As Bruce Schneier describes it. Please fix this issue, this is not the first time I have seen this happen.

All in all, good, higher than usual security handcuffs. I just wish Yuil would put more care into their work these days. I would still recommend them though.

Yuil "High Security" Light Weight Hinged Handcuffs [NIJ] Model M-11 K

These are the aluminium / aluminum light weight and "high secure" handcuffs. The quality is good, essentially they are a light version of the Y01-K being rigid rather than a chain. HOWEVER. I have to tell you, while these are good handcuffs, they fall short of my expectations and make me like them less. Let me explain...

My other Yuil I mentioned require you to use the high security key, even if you have a normal key that will physically fit in the keyway, it will be blocked from turning to unlock anything. These M-11 K rigid cuffs will unlock with ANY standard key that will physically fit in the keyway. In my example I tried a standard un-modified normal Smith & Wesson key and it unlocks both double and single locks. Disappointing.

They do retain all the shimming protection and comfort from the silicone, so they are GOOD handcuffs and technically more secure than your typical handcuffs due to the shim protection. However the keyhole orientation is standard and would be easy to put a key in the hole by mouth due to the simple horizontal orientation.

Where I would give my other chain link yuil Y01-K a 5 star rating, I would give these M-11 K a 3.5 star rating because of the "higher than usual security" shortcomings that I expected from other models. My feeling is this shortcoming only happens in aluminum / aluminium models, possibly to do with weight reduction. It is the same entire locking mechanism as seen in the MY-006 legirons. I think in the future, if I were to buy any more Yuil handcuffs I would go with normal steel/nickel models and ignore the aluminium / aluminum versions unless you truly ultimately require it. The reason I went with it was the easier capability to cut them off in case the need would arise due to a less than positive outcome from picking the locks, due to the softer metal.

Yuil High Security Handcuffs model Y-01 K (NIJ Certified) overview [Feature Rich]

These are high security, durable and feature packed handcuffs. They have a comfortable silicone coating to make them more comfortable for who ever is wearing them (!Deviant" from TOOOL jokes on a handcuff conference that couples would love to use these in the bedroom for the extra comfort haha)

These handcuffs can backload, making easy fast deployment in dangerous situations. The bows have a flat edge which means when speed cuffing someone (slapping them on the wrist) the force is not on a tiny area where the bow curves, since the force is distributed through a larger area where the flat area of the bow contacts with the wrist. Very thoughtful designed handcuffs.

They have two pawl bars with a metal dividing split throughout the cuff, making shimming very difficult because shims would need 2 prongs to get around the metal divider. If that wasn't enough, they added sharp edges on the inner area near the pawl teeth so that even if you force a shim down there, it will get caught on the teeth and never reach the pawl!

You may fit a normal key in the keyway but it will not turn in either direction enough to either unlock the single lock OR the double lock, which is a good security feature because this means you require the correct special key.

While the key is somewhat thin and easy to assume that it would break, the spring in the cuffs is not too tight, so gentle key turns will unlock the handcuffs so that it is no concern.

Very smooth working cuffs, although I will likely have to break them in on one side where you unlock the double lock.
